The pier stretches out into the Gulf, which means you can reach deeper water without owning a boat, paying for gas, or explaining to your spouse why you need another “small fishing investment.”
Best for: Spanish mackerel, snapper, sheepshead, snook, pompano, ladyfish, sharks, and whatever steals your bait without permission.

You get fishing, Gulf views, restaurants nearby, restrooms, and plenty of other anglers to blame when the fish are not biting.
Local tip:
If nothing is biting, just look serious, adjust your line, and say, “They were here yesterday.”
2. North Jetty Park in Nokomis
The North Jetty, located in Nokomis, FL, on the southern tip of Caste Key, is where serious anglers go, casual anglers try to look serious, and pelicans stand around like fishing supervisors.
This is one of the better fishing spots near Venice because the moving water attracts fish. Tides matter here. When the water is moving, the fish may be feeding. When the water is not moving, you may be feeding the fish your bait for free.
Best for: Snook, redfish, mangrove snapper, sheepshead, Spanish mackerel, jacks, and trout.
Best time: Moving tide, early morning, or late afternoon.

Wear good shoes. Jetty rocks are not forgiving. They have been waiting all day for someone in flip-flops.

Best time: Sunrise, sunset, and whenever the baitfish decide to clock in for work.

Do not always cast as far as humanly possible. Fish are often closer to shore than you think. Sometimes they are practically laughing at your 80-yard cast from 10 feet away.
4. Venice Beach
Venice Beach is convenient, beautiful, and close to downtown. It is a great place for casual surf fishing, especially early in the morning before the swimmers, shell hunters, walkers, tourists, and professional beach-chair spreaders arrive.
This is a good spot to bring a rod, a cup of coffee, and a calm attitude. The fish may cooperate. The seagulls definitely will not.
Best for: Whiting, snook, pompano, ladyfish, jacks, and Spanish mackerel when bait is around.
Best time: Early morning, before the beach gets busy.

Look for birds diving, bait flickering, or darker cuts in the water. Or just look for the one old guy catching fish while everyone else catches seaweed. He knows something.

The Brohard Beach area near the Venice Fishing Pier is a great choice because you can fish from the beach, walk over to the pier, grab food nearby, or take a break and pretend that was your plan all along.
It is a good area for families, visitors, beginners, and anyone who likes fishing with food and bathrooms within walking distance. That last part becomes more important with age, wisdom, and coffee.
Best for: Surf fishing, pier fishing, family fishing, sunset fishing, and telling fish stories that improve every year.
Best time: Morning and evening.

This is a great beginner spot because even if you do not catch fish, you still get a beautiful beach day. That is called “successful fishing” in real estate marketing language.
6. South Jetty Area

Here you can fish grass flats, mangroves, docks, channels, and quiet backwater areas. It is beautiful, peaceful, and full of fish that may or may not have read the same fishing report you did.
Best for: Redfish, trout, snook, mangrove snapper, and sheepshead.
Best time: Moving tide around structure, grass flats, mangroves, and deeper cuts.

Light tackle works well here. So does patience. So does blaming the tide.
